LOOKING GOOD

January 5th, 2017 by Budd

The fishing in our area these past couple of weeks has been very good. Not okay or fair but very good. I’m saying this because of the many, many pictures coming in, the fact that customers are repeating their success stories and buying large numbers of bait and tackle. That alone is a true test of their success stories. We hear a lot of “stuff” here every day, but the fact that they are here on almost a daily basis is good enough proof for me that this looks like a great winter for ice fishing. Both Long and Grand lakes are  producing good numbers of perch, and decent numbers of walleye.  Pike are hitting for those who are using the pike baits and fishing in the deeper holes where the pike hang out. The depths have been pretty much consistently reported at about 18 to 20 feet down.  The bait being use is primarily the Blues for both perch and walleye, as well as some perch minnows, but primarily Blues. The Lorie Rigs are showing success, as well as Hali, Swedish Pimples, Buckshots, and some tear drop jigs. For the pike the new pike/walleye rigs are going well, as are the ” Flirty Girty” glow in the dark trebles. Ask about them when you come in if you want great walleye and pike rigs.

ICE CONDITIONS : W e have great ice conditions. Most folks report 8 to 10 inches of clear hard ice. HOWEVER: ” NO LAKE SHOULD  BE ASSUMED SAFE ALL OVER”  EVER.

We are getting some interest in the “FISH FRENZY ”  tournament  SIGN UP FOR JAN. 28, as well as the ” REEL FUN ” fishing event in Feb.

One of the most asked question both in the shop and on the phone is , ” where’s the hot spots ?” The lakes are both about 5600 acres, [ ea.] and there are an  enormous amount of these ” hot spots”. My advice to the customer who asks is to get out there and just look around at the crowds.

And a reminder to those of you who are novice fishermen or old hands at it. Fishing real close to anyone, anywhere, uninvited, is just rude and  not sportsmanlike. Sure its legal, but you will definitely not be appreciated or helped with valuable information. Give the folks some space, you’ll be surprised how receptive they might be to answering your questions.

We hope you all have a great fishing experience and catch fish.
