WE HAVE GREAT ICE, GREAT FISHING !

February 20th, 2013 by Budd

This past weekend there were two tournaments on Grand lake. The 1,000 hole contest was a great success, even though the fish were very small, every one had a great time. The weather for once was decent, and the event went off great. The other tournament, the Grand Lake Sportsman’s club, was a huge success. Results of the contest were dropped off yesterday and the fish are impressive.  The top 21 PERCH, were 11 to 14 1/4 inches, wow. The Walleye winners were  17 plus, and the Pike saw three very nice fish, the biggest being about 32 inches. The ice is good, solid, about 16 inches thick, and shows no signs of letting up.

Long Lakers are telling me about a lot of nice Pike being caught, as well as some Walleye and a Perch, but the better lake for Perch right now would appear to be Grand Lake. Customers have been taking a mix of Blues and Perch shiners for both Perch and Walleye. We sold out temporarily of wax worms and wigglers, and found out they are a huge source of catches on both lakes.

We are always happy to hear about the success of our Loire Rigs, especially at tournament time. Once again, a fair number of fish that claimed prizes, were on these rigs. Remember they are good with all species of bait. From gills to pike, they are the best

This winter season is winding down now, as Walleye and Pike closes in less than a month [March 15 ]. So if you are looking for two great lakes, with safe ice, and fish to catch, this is the place to go.

Q. Did a Brown Trout really get caught  in Grand Lake this past weekend ?

A. Yes, I saw it, 22 inches, beautiful markings, and legal. But not a normal catch by any means.
