THE ICE IS BETTER THAN EVER AND SNOW COMING [ A LITTLE]

WARNING: WARNING******

We received a call yesterday that a snow machine and 2 riders had gone into the water in Long Lake. Both fishermen are fine after managing to reach shore. This happened in the area of  the Long Lake Campground, in about 20 feet of water. There is a pressure crack there and must be avoided. It probably has a slight cover of snow now and will not be visible. Stay away from this area. I’m happy to say that both these men, my friends and customers are doing fine .***********

As of yesterday my customers tell me the ice has gotten thicker with this super cold temps and the ice we lost with the rain and 57 degree day has been replaced, plus. The only thing lacking they say is  snow. We have snow coming down now, about and inch on the ground, and 1 to 3 for tomorrow. Our temp right now  [ 14] is also our high for the day and the next four or five days shows bitter cold, ice making  weather.  Again, caution on any lake any time is a good friend to take along. Most of my customers agree with that policy and the fact that they show up every day tells me  they are doing all the right things to stay healthy. So the number being tossed around this shop for ice thickness is  7 inches of good hard ice. I suspect there is more already and more coming. I also suspect you can find less in some areas of a 5600 acre lake.

Minnows are working on Grand lake with those Lorie Rigs, walleye, pike. perch. Long lake is using up wigglers as well as minnows and a good number of waxies. Also on the  Lorie Rigs. We have had a few reports and pictures of crappie coming out of Long lake, and we’re happy about that.

I strongly urge you to fish this weekend. We have no bad weather coming, and lots of bait and tackle here. [And a little bit  of snow, finally.]
