HAPPY NEW YEAR !
2013 looks like a good year already for the ice, the fishermen and ladies, and the catching. We have had good weather for a few weeks now with no thaw and more cold weather in the forecast. Our area has seen only minimal snow fall, about 2 inches, and the lakes are in good shape for the most part. We always preach caution on ice, and especially with snow mobiles and quads, and even walking if you are in unfamiliar territory.
Our customers have been buying bait in good quantities, and showing us pictures of very nice pike, walleye, and perch, from both lakes. The bay areas have been fished the hardest due to safety concerns, but there are shanties, sleds and quads showing up in deeper areas too. Be careful. The ice thickness report is any where from 2 to 8 inches of ice, good ice.
The baits being used are as varied as the types of fish as always, no secrets or surprises there. Shiners for perch, walleye, pike and gills, as well as wigglers waxies and suckers.
The Lorie Rig fly rigs and the new pike and walleye treble hook rigs are working well. There are a lot of other rigs working as well, and it seems the only requirements to catch fish right now, is you have to get off that couch and get out there.
We have an incentive program going right now too, called “What’s your #? ” It’s a cash give away program to reward our bait buying customers. When you sign up, you put a $5.00 donation in the pot, and get a ticket to enter. Then for the rest of the week, you pay no more, into the pot, but you get a ticket for every additional dozen bait you buy, increasing your chance to win. We will draw the number from the pot this Sunday at 3 pm, with the help of a customer. That winner will receive ALL the money in the pot. If you like this program we’ll have a new one set up each week.
