THE LAST 2012 SUMMER HURRAH IS HERE

August 30th, 2012 by Budd

Wow, then end of August already. The Labor day weekend forecast looks fabulous too for our area. sunny and a slight breeze, temperatures just right  for fishing, camping, and swimming.

I have good news on the fishing too. For a week now, we have had customers showing me their catches of Perch from Grand Lake.  I mean bags of fillets, not those old worn out  “‘ stories”  we hear all the time. I can safely tell you the areas  too that were productive these past few days. It would be the deeper water [ 12 feet ] and near the bottom, along the area known as the narrows in Grand Lake. That would be a stretch from three sisters Islands and North towards Sand Bay Marina. Most customers there have been using fat head Perch minnows, with a variety of hooks and methods. Cast and retrieve, jigging, and drifting.  They are using jig heads,  Lorie fly rigs, and some Eagle Claw hooks. The Bass fishing remains powerful on Grand lake, and the Pike fishing is good too. The  Walleye are good in numbers and a few beauty’s being caught, but a lot of smaller ones too.  Crawlers are working for the Walleye and baby suckers or crawlers are great for those big bass.

Long Lake continues to shine on the North end for us. Lots of Blue Gills, great Bass, a good amount  of Walleye and Pike. We still see our own Lorie Rigs working best, but tubes, top water, and crank baits are doing well too.  On Long, crawlers is the best bet by far for live bait.

A change in our hours is approaching. Right now through the weekend we are open 7-6
