LONG LAKE FAMILY FISHING DERBY AUG. 4

July 30th, 2012 by Budd

August 4, is the Long Lake Family fishing derby. It will held from 7 AM until 3 Pm, fish will be measured at Dodge Marine and there will be raffles, food, beverages, and prizes galore for all children as well as cash prizes for all age groups. All you need to fish this  event is your 2012  membership card. If you do not have this card you can get it right at Dodge Marina, or here, at Buck’s bait shop. You do not need to be a resident of Long Lake  or even a resident of Michigan. You will need a valid Michigan fishing license though, if you are 17 years old or over. Under 17 do not need a license, but must follow all rules

Fishing has been very good on Long Lake for the past few weeks, and appears to be continuing to do so. You may expect to catch Blue Gills, Bass, Perch, Pike, Walleye,  Rock Bass, and even some Cat fish. Fishing is so easy  now, six year old children from Colorado have been catching fish like veteran club members.

For live bait, the biggest seller has been night crawlers, then leeches, then minnows. Artificial baits include Hot’N’Tots, Rapalas, and tubes for Bass. The top tackle remains the Lorie rig fly Rigs as well as the Lorie rig crawler harnesses. These baits are made right here in the good old USA by Lorie, and she will gladly show you which ones are working best right now.

Do not miss this huge fishing event, it will be a day to remember. I have seen the hundreds of prizes for the kids and they are good, quality prizes, no junk. Also this year the Association has purchased a Kayak to raffle off. Wow, what a prize to try for. Remember, your tickets lets the entire household fish , [ your family].

We are open 7 to 6 daily.
