HOW SAFE IS THAT ICE HERE?

February 6th, 2020 by Budd

The ice conditions here in Alpena Michigan on Long and Grand Lake are improved greatly these past 7 days.

We have a very good, cold front coming through now, with night time lows around 20, and day time highs about 30. The open water areas on Grand Lake are freezing, but still a risk. The rest of that lake appears to be safe. We are hoping those soft spots will quickly form thick ice, but EXTREME CAUTION is advised.

Long lake appears to be solid and very flshable.Same advise for that lake too. The slush piles on long lake have leveled out quite a bit. Both lakes have some snow on them.

You are in charge of your decision to use a quad or snow machine. And yes, there are some machines out on these lakes. Trucks and cars are NOT ADVISED.

GOOD NEWS. My customers are catching fish. Not all monster fish but good catches of perch and walleye and pike. HOWEVER, there are not a lot of people on the lakes during week days.

We highly advise you to look the lake over and then decide if you want to go out on the ice

You will need bait, LORIE RIGS, and we have all that and more.

We are open:

7 TO 4 WEEKDAYS

7 TO 3 SUNDAYS
