A WORD OF CAUTION

February 28th, 2017 by Budd

It is March now and after a wild unpredictable winter here, with 60’s, sub zero, thunder and lightening storms, massive snow storms, heavy rains, we have seen about everything. We set some records for highs, and lows.

I am getting quite a few phone calls from out of state, and down state asking me how the ice conditions  are here.  Well I would have to say it does not look that good right now. To say anything else would be untrue and unfair to you travelers.   We have reports from some residents right now, saying there are areas of water showing by the shore line, but that the ice is solid once you get out ” there”. One of those persons is my daughter and her husband who have a cottage on Long Lake at the north end. This weekend they checked out the shoreline and indeed found two feet of water before the ice began. They did not jump out and test the ice. Right now we are getting a hard rain and tomorrow we may have as much as 8 ” of wet snow. I’ll let you folks decide whether this sounds like a good  place to ice fish.

With all that in mind, we will stay open for a while longer but we have shortened our hours due to a drastically curtailed number of customers already. Also our bait truck will not be running much longer due to the lack of his shops needing supplies.

We would like to thank all of you who patronized our shop and fished and hopefully caught fish. It was a spectacular winter for all of us. Record  amounts of fish caught, and record sizes. We will let you know exactly when we close for the ice melt. And when we hope to reopen for the spring/summer season.

Thanks folks.

Sincerely, Budd and Lorie
