We are very grateful for the way this Labor Day Weekend turned out. The weather was spectacular all four days, our customers were very good to us, and even if you did not catch enough fish, you were still gracious and pleasant to be around.  With all that on our side here at Buck’s Bait shop,  we salute you all.

The fish catches were spectacular, and all species were caught, some photographed, and e-mailed to us. If you were here, and if you were out there, you know what I’m talking about. We have not seen fishing this good all summer. Oh, there were good spells and bad spells, lots of wind and high temps, but if you happened to say a prayer for a great break in weather and fish catching, man oh man, the big guy upstairs sure heard you.

One of our biggest surprises for us and you, was the Perch catches on Golden Shiners minnows. Since we were unable to buy any more baby suckers, ( there just aren’t any available ), we bought some Goldens thinking they are great for Walleye and Bass. They are, but the BIG perch hit them on Grand Lake , and surprised us all. People caught on to this quickly and soon we were sold out of Goldens.

But the crawlers, perch minnows and Lorie rigs answered the call, on both lakes and the fish harvested was superb. That’s right S.U.P.E.R.B  We do believe the cooler nights and the calmer air and high barometer all helped. In addition to that of course, the huge amount of people that went fishing certainly helped those numbers too.

Sorry we won’t be able to find any more baby suckers this year , but we have great crawlers and perch baits.

Folks are asking us when we will close this year for our fall break. We don’t know yet, but it will be soon. As we have said for 23 years now, ” when there aren’t enough coming through the door, to justify being open…we close until ice fishing season.”  Simple as that.
