SO , HOW’S THE FISHING NOW ? Q & A

July 21st, 2015 by Budd

The most commonly asked question of any bait shop is ” how’s the fishing, and don’t lie.” Okay we’ll tell you no lies, and a picture or two will be better yet.

The fishing for most of our customers has been very good some days, and average some days, and poor other days. Hey , that must be why they call it fishing. But a huge perch, or a 21 inch bass can really make the day. And that is what is going on right now, when the weather permits the boats to fish. Wind has been a problem for most days lately, but not the fish. They are out there and in good numbers. Long and Grand Lakes have abundant fish for you to catch, and don’t let any one try and fool you by saying it isn’t.

Another question asked here is why we sell suckers  for  bass, walleye and pike. And not shiners. And fat head minnows for perch. Two reasons, they work, and they will live in this summer heat with just a minimum effort and care. Cold water, clean water, oxygen, that’s the formula, very simple . And finally, if you really want healthy shiners, you should try and catch some in minnow traps in your lake. They are legal, free, and in abundant supply at times. [They do move around] And you can catch what you need and not waste them.

We do of course sell shiners all winter, but they are much hardier then. Most of you already know all this, but heat is the enemy of shiners and summers are hot. A five to ten degree change will kill shiners.

Suckers and fat heads do work well, and are in the lakes naturally, so you are not using some bait that is foreign to the game fish.

So; live bait or artificial, we have a lot of good stuff in here, so make a trip, and get out there and catch fish, and remember, use Lorie Rigs for optimum success
