FREE FISH WEEKEND

June 3rd, 2014 by Budd

June 7 and 8, Sat and Sun,  is the Michigan free fish weekend. No one will need a fishing license for any waters in this state, residents and non-residents alike, will be able to enjoy our great fishing lakes. You must observe all rules and laws however, including limits and sizes.

The weather is also co-operating for the weekend, with warm air, sunny skies and cool nights. Perfect for fishing and camping.  Also we would like to inform all of you that in this area we have a saying that goes like this. ” When the Lilacs are blooming, the Walleye will be booming. ”  The Lilacs just came out, and this old slogan is as true as any, so we hope you get out there and get some Walleye.

Also, the Mayfly hatch appears to be trying to start. Many folks think that when this happens the fish won’t bite, they just have too much to eat and so on. The Mayfly hatch has been going on for as many years as there have  been minnows in the  water, and we have plenty of them too. The hatch only makes the fish a little more reckless and it is to your advantage to get out there and fish.

Also, and this may sound like a plug for our famous fly rigs, [it is ] one customer told us that he feels the Lorie Fly Rigs mimic the hatch and have added success to his fishing. Ok, we’ll buy that, and sell them also. [ You really need these!!!]

The Long Lake association membership cards are now available for 2014 at Buck’s Bait shop. You’ll need this card for the fabulous annual Family Fishing Derby, on August 2 nd, only $ 15.00 for this event, and that allows your whole family to fish.  Your immediate family. There are prizes for all children, even if they do not catch a single fish. And the money for this card goes to help stock fish in Long Lake, and any extra donations are very welcome and needed. This year they hope to plant $10,000 worth of Walleye, under sanction and permit of the DNR. More on this event as the time gets closer.

We hope you will all be coming here to enjoy the lakes, the fishing, and have a great summer. School will be out soon, graduates will be out and about, and then there’s Father Day. On Father’s Day, you do not have to spend the morning in a restaurant, that event is over, you have our permission to fish all day and night if needed and we’ll even give you a note stating this. Remember, fish all day, hot dogs and burgers on the grill, a few s’mores, and then fish some more.

We are well stocked with tackle, and live bait, so your first stop should be here, and then proceed to the water fully armed with all the ” Right Stuff.”

OPEN 7-5  EVERY DAY
