FEBRUARY EVENTS

January 30th, 2014 by Budd

There are two big ice fishing contests coming up in February, in this area.

The first event will be the annual Grand Lake  Association ice derby. This will be on Feb. 8, and will run until 7pm. You may have fish measured at the north end of the lake, in the pavilion, From 1 to 7. There will be prizes for Walleye, Perch, and Pike. There is no admission fee or sign up. You just have to be there before 7 pm and the fish must be caught in Grand Lake. There will be prizes donated by area businesses such as Buck’s, and many others. Mark this one down for sure.

The second event is the annual Reel Fun, 1,000 hole ice derby, which is FEB 15.This event costs $25.00 to enter, and runs from 12 to 3 on Saturday. There are many great prizes for this, the first place prize is a quad, and there about 50 other fantastic prizes, drawn randomly. You may buy your tickets at Buck’s, the Alpena Chamber of commerce, or at the arena on the lake. There will be 1000 pre-drilled holes to choose from. More details on FishAlpena.com.

The weather here has been a very sore topic this winter. If  you are not from this area you should know that the lake conditions are pretty tough right now. There is a lot of ice, a lot of snow, and we have had to contend with blowing snow this year, sub zero temps and even harsher wind chills. Because of that weather, we at Buck’s have had to run the shop on fewer days open during the week, and hope that by mid February, the weather will start to turn and become somewhat more tolerable. We know you ice fishermen and ladies are tough, but there are limits to the intelligence of being out in sub-zero temps and white outs.  We hope for better weather, and to see you  on these two events. We will be open for them.

OPEN 7-5 week days.

OPEN 7-12  Sundays
