AND THE BITE GOES ON

August 4th, 2008 by Budd

THIS PAST WEEK AND WEEKEND WAS ABOUT AS GOOD AS IT GETS FOR WEATHER, FISHING, AND CATCHING. WE HAD A FEW DAYS WHERE THE WIND WAS JUST TOO MUCH AT TIMES, BUT THE GREATER PART OF THE WEEK WAS SUNNY, AND FISHABLE.

BOTH LONG LAKE AND GRAND LAKE HAVE BEEN GIVING UP A DECENT AMOUNT OF KEEPER WALLEYE, AS WELL AN ABUNDANT SUPPLY OF SUB LEGALS, OR NEXT YEARS FISH. CRAWLERS AND LORIE RIGS HAVE BEEN THE BAITS OF CHOICE AND SUCCESS. PERCH FISHING HAS BEEN PICKING UP ON BOTH LAKES. LEAF WORMS, AND SMALL MINNOWS HAVE BEEN THE BAIT FOR THEM. WEED BEDS ARE THE BEST PLACES TO TARGET THEM. ON GRAND LAKE, REPORTS OF VERY NICE BLUE GILLS HAVE BEEN TAKEN FROM A VARIETY OF LOCATIONS, BUT THE EAST BAY OF GRAND ISLAND HAS BEEN HOT, CLOSE TO THE ISLAND. GRAND LAKE HAS A LOT OF ISLANDS, THAT AFFORD LOTS OF STRUCTURE AND A SHADY SIDE, TO GET THOSE GILLS AND PERCH.

PIKE HITS ARE STILL NUMEROUS, AND BASS  FISHING IS VERY GOOD ON BOTH LAKES. CURRENTLY WE HAVE BABY SUCKERS IN STOCK, AND THEY ARE DOING VERY GOOD WITH THE BASS. FOLKS ARE USING LORIE MINNOW RIGS, LEAD HEADS, AND JUST PLAIN HOOKS TO CATCH THESE BIG BASS.

WE STILL HAVE A VERY LARGE TOURIST COUNT HERE, AND WE ARE VERY HAPPY TO SEE ALL OF YOU. IT’S GOOD TO KNOW THAT EVEN WITH THE HIGH GAS PRICES, THAT THE FISHING ON THESE LAKES IS A BIG ENOUGH DRAW TO ATTRACT FOLKS FROM ALL OVER THE USA.

THE ANNUAL LONG LAKE ASSOCIATION FISHING DERBY WAS SATURDAY, AND WE HAD A GOOD CROWD OUT THERE. THANKS TO ALL OF YOU WHO WERE CONTESTENTS, AND ALL OF YOU VOLUNTEERS WHO HELPED PUT IT ON. ALSO THANKS TO PEPSI FOR THE FREE DRINKS.

I’D LIKE TO THANK ALL OF YOU WHO SENT FLOWERS OR CARDS TO LORIE. MOST OF YOU KNOW BY NOW THAT SHE IS RECOVERING FROM THYROID CANCER SURGERY. SHE IS DOING VERY WELL, AND IS BACK TO WORK BUILDING ALL THOSE GREAT LORIE RIGS.

WE ARE OPEN 7 TO 6 DAILY

HOPE TO SEE YOU ALL SOON

BUDD AND LORIE
