February is coming up and so are the 2 Grand Lake fishing derby’s, or tournaments.  The first will be the REEL FUN FISHING EVENT, 10th annual gigantic ice fishing extravaganza. Feb 24.The prizes on this event are huge, and you can log into “FISH ALPENA .COM”  to get all the skinny on this event. Better yet, you can come into our shop, BUCKS BAIT AND TACKLE, [ HOME OF LORIE RIGS] AND WE WILL GIVE YOU A BOOK ON THE EVENT.  Free.  The tickets though are 25 bucks and we still have lots of them for sale right here too.

The other big Grand Lake event is the Grand Lake Association family derby on February 17. This event is free, no entry sign up or money needed. Folks like us donate prizes  and all you have to do is show up and fish, and be at the Pavilion on the very north end of the lake by 7 pm. That’s it. Bring in your fish to weigh, walleye, pike, perch, and win some prizes.

This shop will be open the night before the derbys until 6 pm, and open at 6 pm the morning of the events. We will be stocked with good fresh bait and have tackle and of course, you WILL want those. Lorie Rigs to win fish in both events.

The ice is good on Grand Lake, lots of it, there has been some snow, but not much as of now. Very good conditions for ice fishing, quads, snowmobiles, walkers. [people walking 🙂 ]

And in between those tournaments, there is still just plain good fishing going on in Grand Lake. Some folks who have been here for years think this may be the best year yet for big perch and walleye.
