THE HEAT IS ON

August 17th, 2015 by Budd

The last two weeks of August are here, and the heat is here too. I am very pleasantly surprised that the fishing has remained strong in spite of the weather. And I do mean catching, not just fishing. We are experiencing some thunder storms and heat now, and summer will quickly fade away as school starts, vacations end, and back to work begins.

But it is not over yet. Long Lake is still giving up strong counts of Perch, Bass, and Pike. And the Walleye are coming in too but not as strong as the other species. Grand Lake is experiencing pretty much the same results.

The favorite live baits have been perch minnows, and crawlers. At time leeches seem to really take off as do our baby suckers used for bass, pike and walleye. All of these live baits do well on either Lorie Rig crawler harnesses and Lorie Rig fly rigs.

The top lures sold here are still the Berkley Flicker Shads for inland Walleye, and Hot’N Tots ranks high too. For Bass the Spinner baits are really moving out, as are tubes and Hula Poppers . Pike love those Mepps spinners here, and the old faithful Dare Devil lures. Recently a lot of our Red Eye spoons were taken out for a spin too. The fish are deeper now with hotter weather, and that is no surprise I’m sure. About 12 to 18 feet for Walleye, Bass are still easy prey by docks and boats, and shore line structure. The Perch are deep in the weed beds, and the Bass and Pike are watching them too.

Hey ! Enough talk, get rigged up and get our there for the last lat of summer.

Hope to see you soon, open 7 days a week.
