HERE’S WHAT WE NOW KNOW

May 27th, 2015 by Budd

The Memorial holiday weekend is over, and it was a tough one for us with the weather. We had some wind, rain, and cold air. The wind of course is always our worst enemy for fishing on these lakes.[ Long, Grand ]. But we did have enough folks out their trying, and there were some fish caught, most of the action was on Friday night and Saturday. We learned that the fish were in shallow water mostly, and hitting a variety of bait and tackle. We heard 8 to 10 feet for walleye, and perch, and bass were near or under docks, and by the shore line. The pike were in fairly shallow water too, and blue gills were being caught right of the docks and shore lines, and lots of them.
The most common live bait sold in our store were crawlers, and the most popular rig to put them on, turned out to be the new glow fly rigs that Lorie makes, size # 2 and 4.
The most popular colors for the Lorie Rig crawler harness were the green glow and chartreuse glow splatter rigs.
The most popular stick bait sold were the Berkley Flicker Shads, and the ever popular Hot’N Tots lures. Colors varied but orange and chartreuse again were the biggest choices.
Remember folks, when trolling Long or Grand for fish, you want to go vary slow and let a lot of line out for optimum success. MOST of the time, under 1 mph is recommended, and if you have it, use the electric trolling motor or just drift fish.
Hey, we have a ton of sun and fun left for the summer, so get out there and enjoy this ride. The very WORST thing that can happen out there is you will have fun even if no fish are caught.Sun, memories, family and friends, wow, life is good!
Also, always use a Lorie rig, and her birthday is May 30. Happy birthday partner !
One more personal family note that we are very proud to announce. Lorie’s daughter, my granddaughter, Maranda, is now a Doctor, practicing in Memphis Tennessee. WOW Congratulations to you Maranda.

Hope to see you here soon
